Before we give up our slip at Harbor Island West at the end of the month, Dave and I
decided to do a test sail. We wanted to ensure the rig and the new cutlass bearing
are sail worthy. After a bon voyage happy hour and an Adios to all our In Motion
friends, we sailed Saturday afternoon to Mariner's Basin in Mission Bay.
Everything works as expected. Dave installed a new stereo today and I got some
suntan - or maybe a sunburn - watching the activities in Mission Bay.
We plan to sail back to Harbor Island tomorrow, complete our provisioning, organizing,
and get rid of Dave's car by the 31st. We hope to leave San Diego behind on Friday not
returning until the fall.
Happy Memorial Day!

Went to the yard today to see a lot of progress. The cutlass bearing was
replaced and the bottom was prepped and painted. We're waiting for some
parts for the shaft seal and we'll be back in the water in no time.

Today John Hurst of Shelter Island Sign Shop
put a name and home port on Crazy Love. The best illustration is a few photos:
Beyond the the name, there are two jobs being done simultaneously on the boat
in these photos. The first is preparation for new bottom paint. The fellow in
the blue suit is wet sanding the bottom to make sure the new bottom paint sticks
to the boat. The second is replacing the cutlass bearing. This involves removing
the propeller and prop shaft. If you look really close at the first photo you might
be able to see that there is no prop. We're hopeful to have these jobs done by Wednesday
and have the boat back in the water in the marina by Thursday. We shall see...

Today we had Crazy Love hauled out for bottom paint at Shelter Island Boat Yard.
We decided to haul her there by recommendation from the kind folks in the office
at our marina.

This is a crazy thing we're doing. Carolyn quit her secure, high paying job in January
and I quit mine in the middle of April, so as I'm writing this we have no income. We've
also rented out our condo in North Park, so the boat is the only place we have to call home.
Our intention from the beginning has been to live on the boat, but we didn't have as much
time as we expected to sort through our stuff and discard everything that wasn't going to be
useful on our trip. As a result, our cars are are loaded with our junk and we've been living
"in a van down by the river" for the last week. Picture this, every time you take a shower
you have to go out to your car to get a change of clothes. Living on the boat with all my stuff
in the car is good-and-fine, but Crazy Love is in the boatyard for bottom paint, so we're mostly
homeless. Fortunately, we have many great friends willing to take us in. We're currently in
staying in La Mesa with Dennis and Lindsay. Thank you Dennis and Lindsay, y'alls are awesome!
